    Description

Wooden 12-Key Piccolo, Built Circa 1900
Please read the entire description, and the AUCTION TERMS below, BEFORE bidding!
Greetings! I offer this unsigned piccolo, built sometime around 1900 as far as I can determine. It is unsigned. Made of Grenadilla wood with metal-lined headjoint and socket. Reverse-conical bore. 12 German-silver keys, German-silver trim.
    The
instrument plays either in low-pitch D-flat or high pitch C, I'm not sure which as they are so close. The pitch is not marked. It has a sounding length from the center of the embouchure to the end of the foot of 243mm/9-9/16"
. Overall length including head cap pin is 305mm/12".
    CONDITION:
    Cosmetically good
overall, nominally playable, but it really should have an expert restoration to be completely historically correct and fully functional. There are no visible cracks in the instrument. All the keys work although they could use some oiling. The pads seem to be OK, as I can coax a full two octaves out of the horn although I'm certainly not a piccolo player. The instrument is s
old AS-IS with no warranties. See pictures. WYSIWYG.
    PLAYING QUALITIES:
    It is basically p
layable, and I can produce the entire compass for two full octaves, but should be gone over by an expert restorer. HOWEVER, it is sold as a collectible or for restoration only.
NOTE that I make no representations made about its suitability for your intended use.
    ACCESSORIES:
    NONE: No case.

    THE STRAIGHT DOPE:
Although it could probably use some work to be completely playable, this vintage piccolo is in good shape and would be a nice addition to your collection
. All sales FINAL unless I determine that I significantly misrepresented it. I'll be happy to answer any questions about the instrument itself. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
