    Description

Vintage, 1950s, Tin Litho Friction StratoCruiser airplane with TWA Livery made by Showa/Nomura Japan. This  almost 70 year old tin friction toy airplane has operating friction with spinning propellers and makes for a great tin toy display. The "greenhouse" litho cockpit is evidence of its age from this type of aircraft from the 1940's and 50's
This beautiful example is not often seen and boasts two working friction driven propellers. When the wheels are turned (rolling on a flat surface) the fiction drive works well and spins the propellers. There is a red "see-through" window on each engine nacelle or fairing which when the friction wheels are spun, you can see the litho "mechanics of the engine" spin.
The rubber wheels are in good condition with no dry rot, cracks or flat spots. Both original hub-caps are in place. The fuselage nose and rear wheels are in tact and in good condition. The wing clasp that is just behind the rear of the wing is missing. As it is, the wing fits in place and the toy will display just as is, without any adjustment, as shown in the photos.
There are scrapes, and some corrosion. This is a beautiful, elegant tin friction toy from the 50's that presents and displays well as is. A rare and collectible piece. The last photo is of a full scale TWA StratoCruiser. If you have any questions please contact me. Thank you.
    Dimensions are:
