Up for sale and consideration is a Triplett Model 5 Line Level Circuit Tester. This meter is a general purpose precision instrument combining the test capabilities most needed by installation and repair personnel. Also used commonly for testing pilot tone levels of circuits in
radio
trunking systems where receiver comparators are used. This unit can send a calibrated level tone on a signal line (telephone line) and can also receive a calibrated tone from a distant location to measure line loss and can also perform a loop test.
Triplett Model 5 Digital Local Loop Tester
The Model 5 Subscriber Loop Test Set combines the features of a transmission test set, a 15-frequency multi tone generator, and a multi range volt-ohmmeter in a rugged portable unit. The Model 5 was engineered with use and abuse in mind, with superior resistance to shock and extreme temperatures, and is so easy to use that even first time users can make tests quickly and accurately. It comes with a molded, high impact thermoplastic case and cover with non-slip surface and an adjustable nylon shoulder strap which enables hands-free use. The case lid enables storage of both sets of test leads and instruction manual. Closing the case lid will automatically shut the unit off to save battery life.

The Model 5 replaces up to four separate instruments normally used by telephone professionals (transmission test set,signal generator, volt/ohmmeter and 8455 tester). It incorporates a transmission test set for measuring line loss, CKT noise and DC loop current; a tone generator with select-able frequencies and adjustable output amplitude; a DC and AC voltmeter for routine voltage measurements; and ohmmeter with five ranges capable of measuring less than 1 ohm to greater than 1 mega-ohm.
Specifications include capabilities for testing:circuit loss (-40 to +3 dBm); circuit noise (0 to 33 dBrnC); power influence (60 to 93 dBrnC); DC loop current (0 to 100 mA DC); tone generator (frequency/tones include:204-304-404-575-804-1004-1204-1754-1804-2004-2713-2804-3004-3204-4804)  DC volts (15-300 V), AC volts (60-300 V); resistance; and ohms (five ranges1 ohm to 100 kilo-ohms).
The Model 5 features a digital readout surrounded by a color coded label which gives the most used color limits for transmission tests.
In addition to the loop test functions, an AC-DC Voltmeter to check the voltage on the line, and an Ohmmeter to check resistance are included.  A tone generator with 15 switch select-able tones. The tone generator output dB level is variable and can be monitored by the digital readout.
The unit is in a rugged plastic case with removable cover compartment used to store test leads and the operators manual, although slightly worn, is included.
The tester has an adjustable carrying strap so it can be carried without the use of hands.
