This is an ORIGINAL piece of CERAMIC TILE ART Signed by JESS E. DUBOIS  who is an renowned African American Artist with a Creole of Cherokee Ancestry who is passionate about INDIAN ART, and who has received many Awards over the years. This Beautiful example of his Artistry is entitled "COURAGE OF THE BEAR" from Harmony Design Inc. and was made in the USA in Boulder Colorado.
It depicts an Indian Child with the Head of a Bear and a Mountain in the background. It measures 7-3/4" x 7-3/4" with a yellow border all around.  The painting in the center has a narrow black border which makes it stand out from the yellow border.  You cannot tell from the photo how beautiful this piece actually is.  The color of the border is a brighter yellow than you can see in the photo also.
As for the condition, there are a few minor scratches on the front left side inside the border and one in the upper left corner.  It also has a thumb print dent located in the child's hair, which is under the glaze and I believe must have been done in the firing. These flaws are not noticeable when hung or in the photos.  I am not the original owner, therefore I do not know how these scratches occurred, but I am sure they are from age and use over the years.
