RARE Bone Black Powder Horn Wood Plug Leather Strap DEER MURAL, ARTIST SIGNED. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
Appalachia Hunter Horn:
13 Inches Long measured along the curve of the long side
Bought at an Estate Sale, the Elderly lady told me a fascinating tale about this old Horn.
Her Grandfather who came over here from Ireland, during the great Potato Famine, and Settled in a small town of Harold Kentucky.   Later moving into Viginia, which is now West Virginia .
After resettleing in Virgina and meeting a new friend, the two friends would always go hunting together and share what they caught, to take home to thier families.
Now Apple merchants would take thier unsold apple's of the time,  and would throw them into the Ohio River, rather then giving the unsold Apple's to the poor.  Citing giving the apple's away would lower the value of the Apple Crop.
One day while hunting the two friend's saw the Apple's floating down the Ohio River.  One of the friend's decided to wade out and retrieve a bunch of the floating Apple's.  Back then the Ohio River was not very deep.
Well the friend lost his footing, disappeared under the water, and his friend went out into the water saved him.
No one knows exactly when the Horn was created exactly,  but the Friend obviously artistically talented , created it for his friend to show his love and appreciation of his brother.
It was handed down, until there were no more Hunters left in the family.
A pretty awesome tale, thats why I love this business you learn so much.
I have never seen a Powder Horn so Beautiful,  when looking at it, it takes you out in the woods, facing that Deer.
In excellent condition, although you can still smell traces of old black powder, it is quite apparent it wasn't used much.
